Pokémon: Story Version, Chapters 1 & 2
Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 8:00AM Chapter 1:
"Benjamin! Wake up; it’s two in the afternoon!" My eyes shot open as my grandmother repeatedly slammed on the door.
"Benjamin! Wake up before I get a bucket of water to wake you up!" She screamed from beyond the door of my attic room.
"Don't bother! I'm up" I yelled back "the door's locked anyways" I muttered under my breath as I rubbed my eyes and began to stretch.
"I heard that! And don't you think I thought to bring the key", she yelled again from beyond the door.
How did she do that? Hear me from behind a solid wooden door, I mean it cannot be normal human behavior to be able to hear that well.
"Be down in kitchen for breakfast in 15 minutes your family has a surprise for you!” She once again yelled from the door. I hated her old Japanese engrish accent, so abrasive.
"Can you leave already?” I said very annoyed, “As much as I like having a conversation. I kind of need to get past you to get to the shower”
I heard her footsteps going down the stairs of our house. It's three stories if you count my room. That just makes it all the more probable that the old lady will trip and fall all the way down...
"Maybe we'll get lucky today," I said to myself as I got out of bed and headed to the door.
Grabbing my towel on my way out, I carefully went down the stairs in order to avoid my annoying younger cousin. Everyone calls her copycat, I just call her Anne, or Anne-oying. Sorry that was a bad joke. Me? My name is Benjamin, but most people call me just call me Ben. It may seem like a normal day in the Voltaire household but in reality it’s actually supposed to be quite special. You see today is my 14th birthday and my parents already feel that I am behind most kids my age who started their adventures at least two years ago. I've just decided that being at home with my guitar was all I needed to be happy. My parents disagree...
I got to the end of the staircase to the second floor landing. I started walking left and instantly ran into Anne, "Benjermann wake up! It noon o'clock you miss nooder breakferst with egg and vegetabers!" She said, perfectly mimicking grandma. She walked past me snickering to herself, she always laughed at her own jokes.
I finally got to the bathroom stripped down and got in the shower and once I was done with my business I got out, brushed my teeth, went up to my room and got dressed. Finally after I was done getting ready I went down to the kitchen on the first floor to eat whatever it was that my grandmother had prepared to eat. My parents weren't sitting at the table. That figures… they were probably already at work at the Pokemart franchise that they owned here in Violet City. I saw my grandma at the stove cooking up something and sitting at the table was someone I didn't know.
"Ben! Hello. I'm known as Elm the Pokemon professor." He said after taking a sip from a cup of my grandmother’s signature tea.
“Sit down and listen to what Professor Elm has to say" said grandma. She sounded deadly serious, so serious that her English was perfect and un-accented. "Osoi kun" she added under her breath. I slowly pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Hello professor, what can I do for you today" I said, a bit warily.
"Well I was just checking on the young adults in the area, and your name and age happened to catch my eye. Today is your birthday correct?" He asked.
"Yes today just so happens to be my birthday" I answered.
"And how old are you turning today?" Another question.
"Fourteen sir." I answered.
"Have you received a Pokemon from a professor yet?" he continued.
What was this, 20 questions? "No, I haven't." I said defiantly. I crossed my arms defensively, preparing for his next question.
"Well I think it’s about time you got one then" he said, reaching into one of his pockets pulling out three shrunken poke balls. "Please choose one of these as a gift from me to you. As a toast to the start of your grand adventure" he said rather cheerfully.
I didn't know what to say. I was completely dumbfounded. Did he know what he was asking of me? How could he expect a kid like me to take care of another being! I half contemplated just taking one and releasing it later so I could fully escape the responsibility.
"Uhh, I'm sorry professor I don't think I quite understand" I said in order to stall my choice a little longer.
"Osoi kun!” My grandmother yelled from the stove whacking me over the head with a wooden stirring spoon "You take gift from handsome young professor and go on adventure
like all normal twelve year olds!” I was grossed out by the ‘handsome professor’ remark. So was Professor Elm, after all he was blushing.
"Fine!" I yelled more to my grandmother than to the professor as I held my hand to the goose-egg that was now forming.
"Which one is the fire type?" I asked the professor.
"That would be this one," he said pointing to the ball on the left. "That's a good choice." he started.
"Save it. Thank you Professor. I have an adventure to start!" I said cutting him off, nearly shoving him out the door.
“Are you sure?" he sounded completely lost as if he didn't know what was going on or something. "Well if I have to be going make sure you come to my lab later to pick up your Pokedex it will be vital to your journey. Make sure you don't get lost on the way it’s just past Cherrygr-."
I cut him off shutting the door glad he was gone. I slammed the door and breathed out a long sigh as I leaned against it looking at the poke ball in my hand.
"Well, that was rude of you." it was copycat. She had snuck in and was now sitting in my seat at the table eating her breakfast.
"I'm not going!" I said, as I ran up to my room. “You can't make me!" I got to my room and felt very rushed through all of this, it certainly didn't feel like my birthday... I looked down to the poke ball in my hand slowly I pressed the button in the middle of the orb. It instantly enlarged going from the size of a walnut to a good size orange. I was surprised and dropped it; it opened after hit the floor. A red light came out of it and materialized into a solid pokemon
"Cynda!" It cried. I have to say it was kind of adorable. It looked at me curiously though I didn't have a lot of time to analyze it as my door was flung open smacking me on my already sore head.
"OMIGOSH!" squealed Anne, with a great amount of girlish excitement, "I want one! Ben if you aren't going to keep him can I have him?" She was talking so fast it was hard to keep up.
My Pokemon and I looked to each other questioningly "umm, I don't know Anne?" I said rather confused. It was at that moment that I heard something that I can only describe as a hiccup come from the small pokemon sitting next to me and as I heard this "hiccup", flames burst out of the little red dots on its back, enveloping its back completely in flame.
Needless to say, I was surprised by the fire. It only lasted for a second but that was certainly long enough to scare both Anne and I senseless. I didn't quite know what to do, so I shoved Anne out of the room and left with her, we sat on the steps for a while. I was so lost I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to leave but something told me that I had to go now that I had a pokemon; even if I didn't want one in the first place.
"You look sick" Anne said interrupting my thoughts "Maybe you should go talk to your parents about all this, I'm sure they'll have good input to give". She was making sense.
“That sounds like a good idea," I said not too enthusiastically.
"Take Cyndaquil with they'll want to see him" she added. I nodded to her and went back to my room to get my pokemon. I opened the door and I wasn't quite prepared for what I saw.
Nothing much had changed, the floor was slightly charred where Cyndaquil was sitting when he erupted. He had decided to go exploring and had taken a certain liking to my guitar toying around with it plucking at the strings and such this surprised me a little bit but I just picked up the poke ball and returned Cyndaquil to it. I exited my room and headed downstairs to go to the Pokemart just down the street where my parents worked and ran the shop.
"Going out on big adventure?" My grandma asked as I was leaving the premises.
"Maybe…" I answered.
"I have bag packed when you come back then," she replied to my answer.
Chapter 2:
"We're catching up on it boss!"
We had been chasing it for days. We crossed the boundary from Kanto to Johto a while back but the boss just told us to find it at all costs. It was like the thing didn't sleep at all. I looked around at my group of men; all of us with matching uniforms black T-shirts with a bright red R printed on the sleeves. We wore black baseball caps and Lennon style sunglasses along with dark jeans and sneakers.
"Anyone see it?" Someone whispered. At that moment I saw one of the signs that Pokemon of this certain species had been on the trees all the time I inspected it. Of course I didn't understand Sneasel markings, very few humans had taken the time to learn them, but I was sure that this was our target.
"It's close." I recounted to my men "see this?" I pointed out the marking. "It's fresh
and it’s like all the other ones we've been seeing."
We pressed on through the woods until we reached a clearing. It was night time I hadn't noticed it in the thickness of the underbrush. I surveyed the clearing, then I saw it. On a stump near the middle of the clearing sat the Sneasel pierced through the feather by a tracking marker. Dog tags around her neck also for tracking purposes. She had one arm with two razor-sharp claws and the left coated in a blade made completely of permanent ice. That's what made her so special; no other Sneasel could do that. That's why we needed her so we could test her and learn how she did it. At least that’s what I had been told. Personally I think that the execs want it for a completely different reason.
I motioned to my team. “Stay quiet. Don't be seen. Catch it at all costs" I checked back to make sure it was still there. Sure enough… it was. It was just sitting there looking to the stars. We
all got low to the ground and moved up on it silent as possible - eyes on it all the while. I gave the signal to catch it. Its ears perked, it was now or never. I saw my designated catcher, Reaves, rise up with the rocket ball. The poke ball designed to steal pokemon. He lobbed it at the Sneasel. The ball opened and launched out a beam of violet energy. The target was already gone though it was like the Sneasel knew we were there!
"Damn!" I said out loud. "Almost had it that time!"
I saw footsteps in the tall grass; they were Sneasel's they were headed further west. Surveying our surroundings I would've said that we were in the lowlands of the Mt. Silver range somewhere south of Blackthorn city. On our way to Violet city...

should i post more chapters yet?
Make sure you check "publish" on the squarespace editor. As of right now it is listed only as a draft.
um, i can only publish a draft.
Oh, really? Is that how Steve is doing it?
yes... and he doesn't update this enough.
Great story thus far! I like your not-so-straightforward descriptions - as in, not saying that Cyndaquil is a Cyndaquil, letting it say its own name; and Sneasel's Ice Punch (at least that's what I think it is) being described as a blade of ice that no other Sneasel can create (alluding to, I assume, the fact that Ice Punch is an Egg Move for Sneasel). I'm eager to read more. :)
Though, this could use some editing by a Grammar Nazi, too. :P
Other than that, I've one nitpick - the Copycat and the Old Tea Lady are both from Saffron, Kanto. What the heck are they doin' in Violet, Johto? O.o Unless Chapter 1 is just a brief flashback of how Benjamen started out with Pokémon, and Chapter 2 resumes the "present" during which Gold has his adventure...
this was kinda my idea......
yes, duh. but this has been up since mid august... it just barely got out of draft stage.
